10 must haves for your handbag


Today I want to talk about must have items for your handbag! Here are my top 10!

1) Sunglasses:

A must have in my opinion, you never know when you the sun will come out! My Raybans would definitely be my favourite!

2) Your favourite perfume:

My favourite at the moment is Blackberry & Bay by Jo Malone! If you haven’t yet tried them it then I would definitely recommend that you check it out. What’s your favourite perfume?

3) A bold lipstick:

Lipstick can brighten up any day, even if you don’t have much makeup on, it can make all the difference!

4) Your phone:

This one doesn’t need an explanation!

5) Chewing gum:

A must have after food on the go!

6) Purse:

You’re not going to get very far without any money and a purse helps to keep it safe and in one place.

7) Keys:

Another essential, I would recommend keeping them on a funky keyring so that you can find them easily in your bag!

8) Hand cream:

This is an essential item for your bag! There is nothing worse than having dry hands!

9)Hairbrush and bobbles:

Keep your hair in control! There is nothing more annoying than your hair being all over the place. Carry a hairbrush and bobbles to stay on top of it!

10) Headphones

I don’t know what I would do without my headphones, especially on public transport! Great for listening to music, podcasts and much more!

5 must podcasts to listen to


Hello, I hope you’re having a lovely weekend. I have something a bit different for you today!

I’m going to share with you my some of my favourite podcasts.

1) Style your mind by Cara Alwill Leyba

This is an inspiring podcast by Cara Alwill Leyba who is a life coach, blogger and author. She offers her words of wisdom on many different topics, gives advice to new Girl Bosses just starting out and interviews a whole host of different people. This podcast is really positive and uplifting.


2) Earn your happy by Lori Harder

Lori is the founder of the bliss project, world fitness champion, entrepreneur and author. Once again this is a really positive podcast hence the name. Lori interviews lots of interesting people such as Gabrielle Bernstein, Peta Kelly, Rebecca Campbell etc. She also has shorter episodes where she offers her thoughts on lots of different topics.


3) Let’s discuss by Ella Gregory and Monica Wellburn

Both Ella and Monica are lifestyle bloggers. This is a great podcast especially if you’re navigating your twenties! Ella and Monica look at topics such as relationships, friendships, health, productivity, blogging, money, buying your first home etc.


4) At home with, Lily Pebbles and Anna Newton

In this podcast Lily and Anna interview lots of amazing people and have a tour around their home. Some photos are even uploaded so you can see glimpses into people’s homes. They have interviewed people like Jo Elvin, Giovanna Fletcher, Liz Earle and Zoe Sugg. Their new series should be out this year.


5) She Means business by Carrie Green

This one I had to include even though Carrie hasn’t updated it for a while and I haven’t heard about any new episodes being uploaded any time soon. Carrie is really inspirational for entrepreneurs. Carrie is the founder of the Female Entrepreneur Association and the author of She Means Business. Carrie reads snippets from her amazing book and interviews other entrepreneurs.

Girl Power Boss: Deanna Leduc


Welcome back! I’m so excited for today’s post! If you haven’t checked last week’s then make sure you check it out!! Okay let’s get on with today’s interview with Deanna Leduc!

Please tell me a little about what you are doing now and how you got there?

Deanna: The truth is, I am doing a few things right now. I am an author, freelance writer and life coach. I started off writing when I was about 12, by the time I was 15 I knew that I wanted to be an author and on my 18th birthday I sent out half a dozen manuscripts to different publishers. Within two months I had a contract with one of them!

After that I was hooked. So I kept writing and submitting, and I’ve been very lucky. I’ve published 7 books, 4 of which have made it to the best sellers list!

However being an author doesn’t always pay the bills, so I took up freelance writing. I’ve done everything from Amish Romance, to interviews with pornstars. My freelancing varies from reviews, to beta reading and editing. Personally, I absolutely love beta reading for authors because it allows me to help that author  elevate they’re working progress, something they’re passionate about.

Over the years, I started to get people asking me a lot of questions about writing, publishing, and promoting their books. And that’s kind of how the life coach thing happened. It started off with people hiring me to help them with their books, publishing goals and then it slowly turned into people asking for my advice on other things as well.

Please tell me what a day in your life looks like?

Deanna: My days really depend on what kind of work I have ahead of me. If I have coaching clients then I focus on them but if I don’t have any clients then I focus on my writing.

What advice would you have for women reading this who are not happy with what they are doing?

Deanna: My biggest piece of advice would be to take a risk.  I’m a huge risk taker, I get an idea and I roll with it. It doesn’t always pay off but I always learn something from it.

I would also say connect with people who have the same goals as you. Positive common like-minded people who will help you stay on track towards a life that will make you happy.

In order to do that you need to figure out what you want. Grab a pen and a piece of paper and write down your goals. I’m a huge believer in goals, once you start  accomplishing things then you become addicted to this feeling of pride that you get when you achieve something.

What hobbies or practices do you do to stay relaxed and creative?

Deanna: I love to work with my hands. I also love working out, baking, reading, and basically anything that will leave me physically exhausted.

I also have a blog- because you know, my life isn’t surrounded with enough writing! My blog doesn’t always enough time spent on it but I’m getting there by scheduling posts that I’m passionate about.

What project are you working on at the moment?

Deanna: Right now, I’m finishing up the last three chapters of a female orientated, personal Improvement book. I’ve always wanted to do one and I’ve done lots of research for it. I’m trying to make sure it is practical, not like everything out there, and helpful. So it’s been a lot of long nights, but I’m getting really excited to see it coming together!

I’ve also just recently created a Facebook group that has been a passion project of mine, so it’s taking a lot of my time, which I’m loving! For any women out there, you should check us out (because what would an interview be without at least one shameless plug?) we have a lot of chances to promote your business, but it’s about a lot more than that. It’s about helping build the life you want, and helping to keep you motivated as well as challenged, and thinking about where you want to be in six months or a year.

What are you grateful for?


Hello, thank you so much for joining me today in this impromptu post!! I just felt like I needed to write!

Have you ever had one of those moments, where you’re fed up, you’re not feeling well and all the little things like noises outside become really irritating?! The zen me, says let it go, there’s nothing you can do and you’re not making yourself feel better by being grumpy! However that is easier said than done especially when hormones come into play. I think it’s important to take the time to acknowledge how you are really feeling and redirect your attention onto something else, in this case a blog post! Even if you have to get your anger out first!

Okay let’s get on with it, my rant is over! #getthingsoffyourchest!

Today I want to talk about gratitude and journaling! In modern day life we often get swept away with planning for the future and reminiscing over the past but it is important that to take the time to stop and reflect on what we have right now!

Quick exercise for you:

Take a few deep breaths and think about what you have to be grateful for right now! It doesn’t have to be big! Is it your friends, family, health, job, the sunshine, a hobby etc? After you have done that try and think of 2 more things, then write your all 3 things down preferably in your journal.

Importance of dealing with emotions:

Journaling helps you to be positive not only in the moment but, also later on down the line, when you pick up your journal for inspiration and you will remember all of the things you have to be grateful for. Remember positive thoughts lead to positive realities!

You don’t have to be perfect with being grateful or journaling, just practice it as often as you can! You will have moments where you don’t want to journal, where you’re too tired, too stressed, too angry, too grumpy or too frustrated and that is okay! Emotions are normal parts of human behaviour! We need to acknowledge our feelings otherwise they will take over and we will begin to dwell on them. Thoughts turn into why am I grumpy? I’m always grumpy, I’m no good, I can never do journaling and I can’t be grateful because I’m grumpy etc! This is not good for anyone especially not for you!

You need to accept okay I’m feeling grumpy and check in with why you might be feeling that way but be careful not to overanalyse! Over thinking is something I do a lot! I like to think things through properly, but why is my favourite question! Sometimes though it’s not about why but rather what can I do about it? How can I look after myself? Don’t rely on anyone else to stop you from feeling grumpy as it won’t work! Yes it is important to talk and people can cheer you up but you need the recognise the importance of being your own best friend! As you are always stuck with you, there is no one else so make sure you are friends! Take time to connect with yourself, check out my time for tea post if you are struggling with ideas for what to do!

Ideas of what to put into your journal:

I try to journal things like positive quotes that make me smile, affirmations, goals, song lyrics, gratitude lists and success lists.

You can even use your journal as a tool for using the law of attraction to your advantage but more on this in a separate post!

Your journal is personal to you and can be used for anything you want! It doesn’t have to be all writing, you could stick in photographs, drawings and cut outs in there too. Make it yours and reach for it whenever you need to. I find it to be a great stress buster! It clears your thoughts and enables you to think properly. Once you have gotten something down on paper there is no need for you to carry it around with you as well, as you can always turn to that particular page to remember whatever it was that you were trying to remember!

Girl Power Boss: Lisa Gust


Welcome back to Girl Power Bosses! I hope you enjoyed last week’s post. If you haven’t read it then please check it out!

Okay let’s get started.

A little about Lisa, what she is doing and how she got there:

Lisa is a copywriter and translator. Her journey started when she was living in London as an Executive Assistant. She thought she had her dream job, it was full of all the things she loved, organising, planning and arranging events. However over time she began to realise that it wasn’t right for her. She was fed up of 9 to 5 and wanted a change.

So one day she decided to do something pretty drastic and handed in her notice and move to Brighton with only a few months savings to live off. Lisa had no idea about what she wanted to do and then the idea came to her. She decided to apply for part time jobs while she built up a copywriting and interpreting business. However that didn’t seem to work either. Lisa applied for over 100 jobs but no one seemed to hire her and so she decided to concentrate solely on her business. This worked and over time she slowly built up her business.

A day in the life of Lisa:

Lisa’s days are very varied. She is not a morning person and so often wakes up about 8, scrolls through her social media, has her breakfast and then gets ready then work. She then starts working on any projects she has, she will spend time marketing her business and looking for future clients. Lisa is in her first year of business and so said that she is still building her business up and spends time working in the evenings and weekends. However this is a job with more flexibility than her 9 to 5 and she enjoys it!

Advice for women who are fed up of what they are doing and are in desperate need of a change:

Lisa said that her advice would be that there is always a way out. Although she admitted that she would necessarily recommend quitting job without knowing what to do. She said to spend time looking at what you are passionate about and trying to do something related to that. Lisa it may be scary but you need to jump.

Lisa’s hobbies:

Lisa loves reading, mainly crime novels and Harry Potter but that Alice in Wonderland was her favourite book of all. Lisa also loves to travel and the end of June, she is going to go on a world trip starting in Egypt. How exciting!

Takeaway tip:

Lisa said that her advice would be to have the confidence to fulfil your dreams! That it may be difficult at times but that it is always worth it in the end. She also said encourage other women around you to do the same!

Girl Power Design’s Book Club- June’s Choices


Welcome back! I hope you’ve had a good week!

Today I want to let you know about the books we will be looking at for June’s book club! Please join in, read the books alongside me and let me know your thoughts.   • She Means Business by Carrie Green:

This is a book for women who are entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs who want to achieve their dreams. Carrie shares her business and mindset tips which helped get her to exactly where she wanted to be.

  • The Earth Is Hiring by Peta Kelly

Peta looks at the new way of doing things the millennial way in this book. She looks at what we can do to make the world a better place and use our creative talents to do so.

  • Light Is The New Black by Rebecca Campbell

This is probably one of the most spiritual books on the list. It looks at how you should follow and listen to your soul callings and do what lights you up!

  • Little Black Book by Otega Uwagba

This book is a toolkit for working women everywhere with practical advice tips and much more.

  • Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gayle Honeyman

This is the only fictional book on the list this month. It looks at the life of Eleanor Oliphant who leads a very simple life and looks at the struggles she faces with mental health problems and connecting with the people around her. It shows is the importance of taking the time to look after ourselves.

Girl Power Boss: Gina Caracci


Thank you so much for joining me today, I have a very exciting post for you all! My second Girl Power Bosses feature!!! I spoke with the lovely Gina Caracci.

A little about Gina:

Gina is a health and wellness coach who is determined to help busy women to take charge and live their most purpose driven life. Okay let’s find out more shall we?

How did you become a health and wellness coach:

Gina: It honestly came to me accidentally. My roommate at the time was drinking nutritional shakes. I wasn’t very healthy in this stage of my life and was struggling with anxiety and depression. I had gained 30 pounds over a 6 month period and was looking to find a way to get my life back. I would travel to my friend’s gym to buy this shake, but I wouldn’t go in. I stayed this way until someone in my hometown contacted me to say that she was behind the company and that there was actually an entire community of support with the shakes.

She suggested that I should do workouts at home. At first I was skeptical, I couldn’t understand how home workouts could be effective, but at that point I had reached rock bottom so it didn’t matter. With the support of the group I lost weight, found myself and eventually decided to pay it forward and help other women learn to love themselves again.

My journey to becoming a CEO through this coaching business has not been easy. Throughout my life I was faced with many difficulties, coming from a broken home, dealing with family issues, being abandoned by my biological mother and eventually losing my dad to heart failure. I’ve lost a countless amount of people close to me due to health issues and this I think has been the most motivating factor for me to take this from just looking at the importance of health and fitness to looking at true mind, body and soul transformations. I feel that my purpose in life is to teach others to use their amazing qualities to write their own future narratives and transform their mind, body and soul.

Please describe what a typical day in the life of Gina looks like, if there is such a thing:

Gina: Right now I’m still work full time in physical therapy alongside my health and fitness business full time. Each day I wake up about 4:30, 5:00 am and drink my preworkout aka my life juice. Then I sit down and meditate, I do my positive affirmations and read some personal development. After about 30 minutes it’s go time, I then workout listening to business podcasts or audio books to really make the most of my time and get my head right before a busy day. Being in healthcare, I am reminded every single day of how important it is to take care of both our mind and bodies. I usually get home between 18:00 and 19:00 pm. That’s when I eat dinner and then it’s time to get down to business. Most days I work from home helping clients in my personal success group. During that time I also work on my website and blog, I run a fitness community page where I go live almost daily sharing different tips and life hacks on topics I have overcome.

What advice would you have to any of the women reading this post who are not happy with what they are doing?

Gina: I would say that if you’re not happy with what you are doing then it’s time to make a change. In order to make that change I had to sit down and reflect upon what my dream life could look like. Not the one society tells you to achieve, but mine, the one if I let go of all fear, doubt and opinions, what would that life look like. Then I figured out what steps I needed to take to get there. I wrote my goals down on my vision board, I had one column titled: goals to achieve and the other was titled: goals accomplished. As I achieve each goal, I move it to the right column. I also have a second vision board that has my favourite positive affirmations, my goals and my end dates-it’s important to not only set goals but to give time frames to create a sense of urgency. The best advice someone gave me, I’m going to give to you: don’t spend 10-12 hours at your day job working for someone else’s dreams and then not go home and work on your own. To me, it’s simple. Remain focused, keep my head down and never lose sight of what I am doing.

What hobbies or practices do you do to stay creative?

Gina: Every day I start my day off with meditation and positive affirmations. I have three decks of affirmation cards, I pull from each of them and meditate off of the messages each day. That sets a positive tone for my day before the hustle and bustle begins. Also, daily workouts. In my community, we have an online portal that has every type of workout that helps busy women find a way to make their goals work for them. Working out has gone from trying to achieve results, to becoming therapeutic. People underestimate the positive benefits from working out. For a long time, my depression and anxiety suffocated and prevented me from living my best life. It’s because of fitness that I find myself, my purpose and my mission for continuing to fight. Lastly, personal development, it’s the game changer for any woman on a mission to change her life.

What project are you working on at the moment?

Gina: I have just launched a new nutritional program with a registered dietician that is based on mindset and really teaches people how to have a healthy relationship with food. It’s been amazing and eye opening to see just how much of a hold food can have on us.

Also, I have been working on a mind, body and soul wellness group for busy women to truly get the type of transformation that exceeds what a number on a scale says. Where we focus not just on health and wellness, but also personal development and energies.

The Power of Affirmations!!!


Hi! Thank you so much for joining me in today’s special bonus post, looking at the power of Affirmations!

Okay first question I know many of you will have is what is an affirmation? An affirmation or mantra, the word is pretty interchangeable, is a positive sentence that you repeat out loud or in your head to affect the conscious and the subconscious mind.

Now let’s break that down a little bit more! You may remember that in my last post I said our beliefs and thoughts create our reality. Well it’s true! If we say something to ourselves often enough then it becomes true.

Have you ever thought I can’t do that and then found to your dismay that you couldn’t? The reason that this happens comes back to what I was saying yesterday (in my Good Vibes post) what you put out to the universe you will get back.

Affirmations help to motivate us, change how we think, remind us of our goals, feel more positive and raise our vibrations. See yesterday’s post for more information on this!

I am sure that many of you will now be thinking that’s great but how can I use them, what do I say and when?

It’s simple you can say any empowering positive statement you want! Yes you heard me, write anything as long as it’s positive and it connects with you! I would encourage you to sit down and write your own.

I normally say them in the morning when I wake up and then whenever I need them throughout the day. You can say them whenever you want to, maybe before bed to help you relax. It is whatever works best for you.

Here are some examples of what you could say:-

  1. I can and I will, watch me;
  2. I am calm, creative and caring;
  3. Miracles happen to me all of the time;
  4. I get to choose who I want to be; and
  5. I am always guided and I know what is for me will not pass me.

When you say the right words with conviction every day for a while, then I promise you that they will begin to light you up! I really believe that everyone should say them, even children! They could say something like the following:-

  1. I am me and I am okay;
  2. I am happy;
  3. My family love me because I am me;
  4. I am a fast learner; and
  5. I like school and I am happy there.

Good Vibes!!!


Welcome back! I hope you are well! Thank you so much for joining me! Today I want to talk about good vibes! Sometimes I find that people often moan for the sake of moaning but what they don’t realise is that when they are putting out these negative vibes they are actually getting them back in return!

You see we are all made up of energy and the universe is too, so what we put out is what we will receive. Beliefs and thoughts create our reality! We have to be mindful of both our conscious and our subconscious thoughts! We are a magnet for things that have the same vibrational frequencies as us and we repel the ones that are different to us.

We need to concentrate on shifting our negative, limiting beliefs to allow ourselves to show up as the best version of ourselves. Identify where you are holding onto any negative energies and just let them go. Practice forgiveness for when you have done so in the past and move forwards.

Some people are so desperate to see the bad in others, to think negatively about them, when they don’t have the full picture. Yes there are bad people in this world but there are more good people. Focus on the good people and the good things in life. Let’s raise our vibrations and attract positivity! Make other people smile by sharing what you learn. You could start by sharing this post. Remember to look after yourself first so you can look after others.

Surround yourself with positive people and protect yourself from negative ones.

I would recommend getting some crystals to do this! I would recommend the following:-

Rose quartz allows you to get to know your true self and to love that true self in all its beauty. It opens up the heart for giving and receiving love.

Black Obsidian helps to release disharmony and negative energy from your life. Carry it with you especially if you know you will be surrounded by negative vibes!Get clarity on what you want and why you want it. Don’t be afraid to ask the universe for what your heart truly desires be specific in your request so that the universe can pick it up! Also remember that you will have to put in some work too. There is no magic wand I’m afraid!

Act as if you already have what you want. Have faith in yourself that you will achieve what you want and the universe will be there to catch you if you fall. I will do a more detailed post on manifesting what you want soon, let me know if you would be interested in this.

Girl Power Design’s Book Club


Welcome back! I hope you’re all having a good week! Now I know what you’re thinking it’s Thursday where is the Girl Power Boss post? Unfortunately things haven’t quite gone to plan this week but I have an exciting post ready for next week. Things not going to plan also fits in well with another upcoming post I will be sharing on perfectionism. This is a fine example of how things don’t always go to plan, I will touch more again on this topic soon.

I loved this book, I really can’t recommend it enough, you need to buy it! Sarah is really relatable and insightful. Her blunt sense of humour keeps you laughing throughout deep subjects. She teaches you much more than how to be you but also how to get what you want, how to ignore the people who might be judging you and how to ignore all of the shoulds and should nots and actually listen intuitively to what you want to do and what you think is right.

The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down by Haemin Sunim.

This is a brilliant book which is easy and enjoyable to read. It explains in more detail about mindfulness. The book has eight chapters looking at different parts of life, from friendships, love to work etc. Each chapter is followed by a series of short messages or prompts for meditation. There are also lovely bright colourful images throughout.

You Are A Badass, How To Stop Doubting Your Greatness And Start Living An Awesome Life by Jen Sincero.

I could not put this book down! So insightful! Jen Sincero teaches you how to be open to new concepts and to be really positive about the present and the future. It explores a wide variety of personal development topics such as your connection to Source Energy, goal setting, taking action, visualisation, affirmations and more. Check it out!
